Free webhostings good or bad?
geocities
netfirms

and many more like them.
The basic question is are they good or not!
Well nothing good is entirly free in life. The same goes for the free hosting services. Although you might actually be lucky enough to get a free webhosting, but there will always be drawbacks and limitations. To start with, every free hosting company puts either a big banner on the website, adds some pop-up, has a full website advertisment for some seconds (after which you get redirected to your own) or has an annoying frame somewhere. This becomes unacceptable in many cases.
The second drawback is that even if you get a good 30 MB for hosting, you might not get good monthly trasfer limit. Monthly transfer is limited so narrow that most prolly if you are getting five hundred users to your website, you are sure to loose the monthly bandwith within first or second week. So if you are serious in making some money online, you should always consider a paid hosting. The free hosting services never care too much about your website and can shut it off if they feel that their servers are getting some burden.
The third reason i wouldn't recommend a free hosting is that the URL's they give you are so ugly and long that one might forget it his self, what to speak of others. The other problem a person faces here is that if he is selling something on a free website, most of the people would consider this as a scam and wouldn't buy anything. So the product selling business dont go that great here.
The forth issue is that most free hostings dont allow any server side language. This means that you cannot do any dynamic site which includes some databases and .htacces files there. So only static pages can be made on which you can only put up your profile etc.
Anyways, if you still think that free hosting will work out for you, try out netfirms.com. This is the best amoung all the others.
